A Lebanese army soldier opened fire on Israeli soldiers manning

the northern border Monday morning, the first day of the Muslim
holy month of Ramadan. One unconfirmed report said that
the attacker was wounded, but Lebanese officials said no one was hurt.
It was the first incident at the border in a year.
An IDF spokeswoman told Arutz Sheva that the soldiers were within Israel and
that a complaint of the attack has been filed with the United Nations Interim
Forces in Lebanon (UNIFIL).
The IDF said it is interested in maintaining quiet at the border.
It is not known if the Lebanese soldier acted in coordination with Hizbullah,
which has become part and parcel of the Lebanese army.
Hizbullah is nervous over the increasingly precarious position of Syrian President
Bashar Assad, political analysts have reported. If his regime falls, Hizbullah and
Iran will
have lost an important ally that could upset their influence in Lebanon, where
Hizbullah and
pro-Syrian parties dominate the government.
Hizbullah also has reportedly relocated a large number of missiles from Syria into
Lebanon, preparing for “the day after” Assad when Hizbullah probably will be
unwelcome by a new regime.
